What precious, unseen power does a secret contain? Why is the practice of keeping secrets so universal?
Revealing a secret can be liberating and provide a release—when done right: in a safe, non-judgmental environment. But what if telling the secret leads to disaster? What if it makes you feel better but it hurts someone else?
Research has shown that keeping secrets leads to increased stress and anxiety. The very act of keeping a secret sets up your brain to dwell on your feelings about the issue, and the more you think about it, the more “mental real estate” it takes up in your life.
Here’s where the alchemy comes in: researchers found the simple act of writing down a secret, even if no one ever reads it, makes people feel better. Taking action is, itself, cathartic.
You are invited to join the Alchemy of Secrets experiment here, by sharing ANONYMOUSLY, your secret. Then, pay attention over the next few days and weeks to any change in your level of anxiety or improvements in vital areas like sleep and relationships. Come back to tell us about any changes you notice, or even if there doesn’t seem to be any change. We want to measure all outcomes!
Use the form below to submit your secret. It will be published on this page pending review by the Alchemy of Secrets editors.
We will let you know the results of the experiment when sufficient data has been collected to draw some preliminary conclusions.
Thanks for being a participant in the Alchemy of Secrets experiment!
