David Franks is an author from Huntsville. His latest work, 30 Days in Attawapiskat, tells stories of his one-month exploration of the fly-in Native reserve.
After hearing so many news stories about dire conditions in the reserve, David wanted to see for himself what life was like in the most remote parts of Canada. He arrived by plane in Attawapiskat with no plan, no schedule, and no idea what to expect.
Over his 30 days in the reserve, he ended up gathering dozens of stories – some positive, some sad, some scary. He saw a wide range of lifestyles and a strange and intoxicating mixture of the traditional and the very new. He came away with a deeper understanding of what it means to be Native American in this country today.
His book captures the stories he heard, as well as his own impressions of his time spent in the north. He hopes to share his life-changing experience with readers across the country.
